Minimize Sentinel-3 SLSTR Technical Guide

The Sentinel-3 Technical Guide covers an in-depth description of the mission's products and algorithms as well as details on the SLSTR instrument and its performance.

Before reading the Technical Guide, users are advised to read the Sentinel-3 User Guide for high level descriptions of the available instrument modes and products.

The technical guide is divided into seven main categories, followed by the appendices.

  • SLSTR instrument
    A description of the instrument is given with details of the calibration methods and technical specifications.
  • Products and algorithms
    Provided in this section is an in-depth description of the Level 0 to Level 2 algorithms and the resulting products.
  • Processing Baseline
    Each product has a particular 'processing baseline' associated with it to enable users to link the products back to a particular instance of the processor and the auxiliary files used to produce that product. This enables improvements and modifications to be tracked. Here a table and several figures help define the changes made at each baseline release.
  • Anomalies and Events
    The quality of the data products can sometimes be affected by satellite anomalies. This section shows when the products were affected.
  • Calibration and Validation activities
    The activities that are performed to enable the calibration and continual validation of SLSTR data are described in this section.
  • Mission Performance
    Information about the performance of SLSTR during the mission is provided here.
  • Data product quality reports
    A data product quality report is produced for every satellite observing cycle (defined as the period of time taken to return to the exact same spot on the Earth, i.e. 27 days). In this section there are links to every cyclic performance report.
