FRP Processing Parameters

The SLSTR Level-2 Fire Radiative Power (FRP) processing. uses several dedicated ADFs:

The Processing Control Parameter File (SL_2_PCPFAX) includes several configuration parameters such as switches and test thresholds to highlight false alarms.
The FRP Test Data File (SL_2_FRPTAX) includes thresholds and specific ranges. During the FRP processing, several tests are carried out to identify fire spots and calculate their associated FRP (see dedicated wiki page). Each test is taken into account in this ADF and specific thresholds are provided. The different tests are:
  • solar geometry test
  • water test
  • cloud test
  • sun glint test
  • sub-scene test
  • spectral test
  • spatial test
  • absolute test
  • background test
  • contextual threshold tests
  • desert false alarm tests
  • FRP confidence tests.

One specific container is associated with FRP calculations.

Enabling thanks to a Processing Control Parameter switch, the values included in GLC2000 global mask (SL_2_PLFMAX) can replace the SLSTR L1 surface classification mask.

The Classification Fire Mask Data File (SL_2_CFM_AX) is used to define the type of fire pixel. Thanks to known locations of volcanos and gas flares, some fire can be correctly classified.

The S7 and F1 Pixel Area Data File (SL_2_SXPAAX and SL_2_FXPAAX) is used during the computation of FRP data. The pixel shape is effectively varying all along the scan, especially for S7 channel.
