Southern Europe is in the grip of a relentless heatwave, fuelling wildfires and water shortages. Information from the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite has been used to map the sweltering heat across the region.

Further to the earlier announcement of Sentinel-3 OCLI calibration activities, we would like to inform the users that due to an OLCI S09 calibration, the nominal OLCI mission data acquisition will be interrupted on 15 August from 08:59:20 UTC to 09:05:20 UTC.

Due to a SLSTR contingency with a decontamination activity as a part of the recovery operations, SLSTR mission data will be unavailable during from 30 July to 07 August 2017.
The Sentinel-3 SLSTR instrument entered standby refuse mode at 14:33:21 on 30 July 2017 due to infrared band unavailability, causing data degradation.
OLCI calibration activities may result in data degradation on 8 and 15 August 2017.

There will be a major maintenance of the Sentinels Data hub services on Tuesday, 01 August 2017. The maintenance window will start at 06:30 UTC (08:30 CEST) and is expected to finish at 16:00 UTC (18:00 CEST).

With its unique sensor and frequent revisit cycle, the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite can measure sea level in locations where not previously possible.

With the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite fully fledged and its data freely available, the task of monitoring and understanding our changing planet has been made that much easier. Seeing the effect spring has on our plant life is just one of its many uses.

ESA is pleased to announce the first official release of Sentinel-3A OLCI Level 2 data products in the Sentinel Data Hub.

ESA is pleased to announce the first official release of Sentinel-3A SLSTR Level 2 data products in the Sentinel Data Hub.

A new L1B Processing Baseline 2.17 has been released for SLSTR and OLCI at 13:15 UTC 5/7/2017.

While a fire at a rubbish depot was detected from space by the Copernicus Sentinel-3A and ESA's Proba-V satellites, pollutants in the plume of thick smoke were measured by instruments that will be used to validate information from the upcoming Sentinel-5 Precursor mission.

Due to a SRAL Digital Elevation Mode EEPROM patching operations, SRAL mission data was unavailable during the following period:

22 June 2017 from 08:48:42 to 08:54:08 (Duration 00:05:26).

Due to a SRAL DEM EEPROM patching operations, SRAL mission data will be unavailable during the following estimated period (the effective unavailability period will be reported after the operation):

  •  on 22 June 2017 from 08:50 UTC to 09:00 UTC.

Due to a black body crossover testing activity, SLSTR L1 and L2 mission data should be considered degraded during the following period:

  • on 13 June 2017 from 11:05 UTC to 14:07 UTC
  • on 14 June 2017 from 15:36 UTC to 17:50 UTC
Infrastructure maintenance activities are scheduled for the data hubs on Wednesday 7 June, Tuesday 13 June and Wednesday 14 June 2017.
While the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite is in orbit delivering a wealth of information about our home planet, engineers are putting its twin, Sentinel-3B, through a series of vigorous tests before it is shipped to the launch site next year.
A maintenance activity on the Open Access Hub is foreseen on Thursday, 01 June 2017 from 06:00 UTC to 10:00 UTC.

Due to a Sentinel-3A Ground Segment anomaly, some NRT products for all instruments, starting from 29/05/2017 - 16:48 UTC, till 30/05/2017 - 13:30 UTC have been produced late or can be missing. Nominal production has been restored.

Due to an OLCI calibration activity, the OLCI acquisition will be interrupted from 08:59:30 to 09:05:30 on 26 May 2017.
