The Copernicus Sentinel Operations Dashboard is the platform meant to keeps users and stakeholders up to date with the latest information about satellite data made available to them.

Since its deployment on April 20th, 2023, the Dashboard is constantly updated, to improve the quality and the timeliness of the information delivered.

With this regard, a new feature has been released on Tuesday October 31st, 2023:

  • Interactive visualization of the Acquisition Plans for all Sentinel Missions: The Acquisition Plans available so far on Sentinel Online for Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 are now visible on a brand-new interactive globe, offering the opportunity to see the animation during the sensing activity, for all Sentinel Missions. Datatakes acquired in the past can be also inspected, as well as any datatake being acquired in real-time operations. By selecting the day and the satellite of interest, all programmed datatakes are dynamically displayed in the right-side dropdown menu, with a semaphore light representing their completeness status (Figure 1).

Any time a new datatake is selected, the simulation time is automatically moved to the beginning of the sensing activity, and the virtual camera is focused on the target datatake. By clicking on the “Play” button in the bottom-left corner, the simulation starts, showing the Copernicus Sentinel satellite moving on the portion of the Earth surface under observation (Figure 2).

By clicking on the icon, a pop-up will be displayed, showing the product types relevant to the selected datatake, together with the corresponding completeness value (Figure 3).
