As previously anticipated in an earlier news publication, a major update of the Copernicus Sentinel-5 Precursor (S5p) operational ground-processing system will be performed on the 5 July 2021, including upgraded L1B and L2 products.

Due to Ground Segment constraints, the L1B OFFL processing will be stopped on orbit 19257 on 1 July 2021 and activated again on the 5 July 2021 after the update.

Some OFFL Level 2 products will be generated with degraded quality during the switch transition period (1 - 5 July):

  • Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Formaldehyde (HCHO) will be highly degraded
  • CLOUD, Ozone (O3) and Tropospheric Ozone (O3) slightly degraded

Users are recommended to use this data with care. These products will be reprocessed in the near future.

The timeliness of the OFFL production will also be affected and due to the processing backlog, OFFL product availability will be delayed and products are expected to be available up to six days after sensing. Nominal dissemination timeliness of three days after sensing is expected to be restored at latest by the 19 July 2021.

No impact are expected on the NRT processing except that data acquired during the downtime period ( one orbit the 5 July 2021) will be not generated.
