Minimize Averaging

Averaging of SLSTR and OLCI collocated data over several pixels squared minimises the effect of errors in image collocation, while retrieving aerosol within the spatial scale of aerosol variability.

The averaging step aims to establish a data structure, where all required SYN collocated data are accessible by means of (k, l', m') coordinates which refer to the SYN averaged grid.

Averaging of geophysical quantities (i.e. radiance, error) is carried out by calculating the arithmetic mean. Averages of land and cloud flags are calculated by means of Boolean multiplication (logical AND combination) and addition (logical OR combination) respectively.
