River ice jams are a prime source of flood risk in cold regions. This recently occurred in Alberta, Canada, where the flooding of Fort McMurray resulted in the evacuation of the downtown district and in extensive damage. Copernicus Sentinels are lending a hand to monitor river ice conditions before ice jams affect towns and cities.

A service downtime of the Copernicus Data Access Hub is currently ongoing since 00:00 UTC, 27 May on the following access points:

  • SciHub and API Hub
  • Copernicus Services Data Hub
  • Collaborative Data Hub Node 1.

We are pleased to publish the fifth Copernicus Sentinel Data Access Annual Report .

This report for 2019 follows directly on from the 2018 report, and analyses the uptake of Copernicus Sentinel data and the performance of the Copernicus Sentinel Data Access System during the period 1 December 2018 to 30 November 2019 (referred to as Y2019).

Due to a ground segment configuration error, a set of NRTI data with sensing date of 2019-07-29 and 2019-07-30 that have been processed for validation of the the Near Real Time dataflow with improved algorithms have been mistakenly published on the Sentinel-5P pre-operations data hub on 2020-05-18/19.

Due to a Copernicus Sentinel-3A SLSTR instrument anomaly occurring on 13 May and consequent recovery actions executed on the instrument all the related user products are unavailable or degraded.

A new brochure featuring some of the highlights of our Sentinel Success Stories is now available and demonstrates just some of the successes of the Sentinels.

Due to a PDGS scheduled maintenance on 20 May 2020, Copernicus Sentinel-3 SLSTR NRT products (L1/L2) belonging to sensing time window from 07:30 to 12:00 UTC will be delayed.

Due to a Copernicus Sentinel-3A SLSTR instrument anomaly occurred on May 13th and consequent recovery actions executed on the instrument all the related user products are unavailable or degraded in the following UTC sensing time intervals:
  • From 13/05/2020 11:18 to 18/05/2020 16:58: VIS and IR channels are unavailable (instrument anomaly).
  • From 18/05/2020 16:58 to 20/05/2020 20:00: IR channels are invalid and VIS channels may be degraded (recovery action).
Infrastructure maintenance activities with downtime of the main storage facilities are scheduled from 18 May 10:45 UTC to 19 May 11:30 UTC.

On 19 May the Copernicus Space Component Data Access web portal will be updated, and a brand new website will take its place.

Calling on all interested users of Sentinel data, who would like to submit their results, turning their experiences into 'success stories'.

If you have a good story to tell, of how any of the Sentinel satellites are producing data that bring benefit to your work and/or to society, please contact the Sentinel Online Editors at: contentmatters4sentinelonline@ejr-quartz.com with your proposals.
