The Sentinel-3 Altimeter Processing Baseline (PB) 3.29 was deployed on June 22, 2024, at the ESA S3A Production Services, synchronised to the start of cycle 113 in NTC timeliness. It will be operated at the ESA S3B Production Service starting from July 1, 2024, with the beginning of cycle 94 in NTC timeliness.

The new Processing Baseline 3.29 includes the following main evolutions:

· A “Sea Ice Type” information is available in the Sea Ice Thematic Product, extracted from OSI-SAF 403-d products (https://osi-saf.eumetsat.int/products/osi-403-d/). Sea ice type classifies ice-covered areas into two categories, based on the sea ice age: multiyear ice versus seasonal first-year ice.

· A new surface type variable is available in the Land Ice Thematic Product, extracted from the BedMachine data set. With this information, users will be able to more accurately discriminate ice sheet and ice shelf surfaces in Antarctica and Greenland. The information is also used to determine with better accuracy the adequate set of geophysical corrections applied on the altimeter range. References:

· New product variables are available in the Hydrology Thematic Product, providing information related to Open Loop Tracking Command (OLTC) settings. For each 20 Hz records, users will be able to know if the on-board tracking was finely tuned, or not, for monitoring water bodies overflown by the satellite. The location of these hydrological targets can be found on: https://www.altimetry-hydro.eu/.

PB 3.29 also includes the resolution of minor anomalies, particularly a correction for avoiding MWR missing data near moon calibration.
