ESA is pleased to announce the forthcoming deployment of the new Processing Baseline 05.11 on 23 July 2023. This new version features further specific improvements:

  • Optimization of geometric refining to further improve geolocation accuracy in certain cases.

  • Correction of the quality mask for lost packets.

  • Renaming of the DARK_FEATURES class (SCL = 2) in the Level-2A Scene Classification Layer by CAST_SHADOW. The computation of this class remains unchanged only the name of the class is updated.

  • Optimization of snow/ice detection in the Level-2A scene classification at very high latitudes.

  • Addition of a new AOT retrieval method ‘NA’ reported in L2A_QUALITY.xml files when the atmospheric correction cannot be performed.

It is highlighted that the Sentinel-2 products generated with Processing Baseline 05.11 will implement the new version of the PSD v15.0, which mainly supports the forthcoming Sentinel-2C (and Sentinel-2D) specifications.

For further details on the PSD update, please refer to the previous news announcement.

Referring to the applicable Sentinel-2 Acquisition Plans for Sentinel-2A and for Sentinel-2B, the first Sentinel-2A/B Datatakes that will result featuring the new PB-05.11 are the following:

  • Sentinel-2A: the Datatake identified as DT 47448-1, with sensing start time at 03:15 UTC approximately, along Sentinel-2A orbit 47451

  • Sentinel-2B: the Datatake identified as DT 38542-1, with sensing start time at 07:26 UTC approximately, along Sentinel-2B orbit 38542

We would like to wish all users a smooth and successful transition.
