The actual ground track orbit of the Sentinel-3B (S3B) satellite has been observed to violate the nominal dead-band of +/- 1km from the reference orbit over different periods of the year 2023 as you can see from the figure here below.

The left axis of the plot corresponds to the maximum ground track deviation w.r.t. the S3B reference orbit +only if > -1 km (so violating the dead-band), when the right axis corresponds to the latitude for those violations.

In the case of S3B, the dead-band violations occur over every latitude band, and quite frequently in August 2023 when crossing the equator.

Users are informed that this issue may impact the performance of the S3B Altimetry Inland Water data products.

The joint ESA-EUMETSAT Sentinel-3 project is working to ensure a better maintenance of the S3B satellite unit within the nominal dead-band.

As previously announced in January the Copernicus Open Access Hub service continued its full operations until the end of June 2023, followed up by a gradual ramp-down phase until September 2023. The Copernicus Open Access Hub will be exceptionally extended for another month and will cease operations at the end of October 2023. To continue accessing Copernicus Sentinel data users will need to self-register on the new Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem. A guide for migration is available here.

The new service offers access to a wide range of Earth observation data and services as well as new tools, GUI and APIs to help users explore and analyse satellite imagery. Discover more about the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem at https://dataspace.copernicus.eu.

Due to predicted outage for Copernicus Sentinel-3A SLSTR Calibration, SLSTR Products degradation is expected for sensing time from 26/09/2023T07:18:00 to 28/09/2023T03:30:00 UTC.

We are pleased to announce the deployment on 20th September 2023 of new Land Altimetry processing baseline 03.22 implementing the transition from present operational Land products to the new Altimetry Thematic Products over Inland Waters, Sea-Ice and Land Ice surfaces as described in:

https://sentinels.copernicus.eu/web/sentinel/-/sentinel-3-land-altimetry-land-thematic-products-with-baseline-collection-005-availability-notice-update-on-28-march-2023

Product filenames follow the following convention:

Baseline Collection Number:

004: Old processing baseline

005: New processing baseline, i.e. Thematic processing.

Production Centre:

LN2: For the NTC pilot production started with data from June 2022 and until the operational deployment, and also for the historical re-processed datasets.

PS1 and PS2: For the two operational Processing Service

As previously announced in January and started in July, the Copernicus Data Hub distribution service will face a gradual ramp-down of the operations capacity and data offering from July 2023 until September 2023.

As from September 2023, some Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B Level 2A products belonging to the old processing baselines (< 05.00) will gradually be no longer accessible through the Data Hub interfaces. Please note that some desynchronisation may be expected in the catalogue records for this data and download attempts might result in an error.

Users are encouraged to register and access the new Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem which allows access to the full Sentinel data offer.
Discover more about the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem and access the data via https://dataspace.copernicus.eu.

Due to predicted outage for Copernicus Sentinel-3B Out-of-Plane Manoeuvre, SLSTR and SRAL Products degradation is expected for sensing time from 20/09/2023T08:29:36 to 20/09/2023T09:04:33 UTC.

Due to Copernicus Sentinel-3A SRAL on-board maintenance, SRAL Products degradation is expected for sensing time from 19/09/2023T11:55:00 to 22/09/2023T17:22:00 UTC.

We are pleased to announce the deployment on 20th September 2023 of new Land Altimetry processing baseline 03.22 implementing the transition from present operational Land products to the new Altimetry Thematic Products over Inland Waters, Sea-Ice and Land Ice surfaces as described in this news.

The new Thematic Products have already been available since July 2022 as pilot products; however, the pilot Thematic products were limited to NTC timeliness. The release in operations, the Thematic Products will be produced for all timeliness: NRT, STC and NTC.

Beware, the new processing baseline will no longer produce the old products: Level 1B (SR_1_SRA_), Level 1BS (SR_1_SRA_BS) and Level 2 (SR_2_LAN_).

Whereas Level 1A (SR_1_SRA_A) will be produced for all timeliness: NRT, STC and NTC.

Historical series for the Thematic Products have also been produced and are available as per previous news: Copernicus Sentinel-3 Land Thematic Products: Full Mission Reprocessing & Availability Status.

Due to Sentinel-5P orbit control manoeuvre (OCM) activities planned on 30/08/2023 (DoY 242), impact in the quality of TROPOMI science data is expected from 18:17:04 UTC to 19:02:11 UTC affecting orbit 30466.

We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause to your activities.

As previously announced the Copernicus Data Hub distribution service is reaching the end of the gradual ramp-down of the operations capacity and data offering, and is on track to be de-commissioned at the end of September 2023.

The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem is fully operational and ready to take over from the legacy Hub services. There are many innovative features and a wealth of information now available on the new web portal, and for any doubts please use the user support area . Feedback on the new service is very welcome and will help to tune the roadmap for the next set of features to be released.

For a refreshing look at the features of the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem and to promote the awareness of the new services please feel free to share the following short video.
