An acquisition issue affecting Sentinel-2B on 31 March 2023 induced the following unrecoverable loss of data:

  • Datatake S2B-31684-1 is partially lost.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

An Infrastructure Security Maintenance activity is scheduled on 4 April 2023 from 08:00 UTC to 18:00 UTC on the following data hub instances, causing the publication delay of all Copernicus Sentinel-1, Copernicus Sentinel-2 and Copernicus Sentinel-3 products.

The access to the below services will be interrupted for the duration of the maintenance.

  • Copernicus Open Access Hub (also including API Hub and Copernicus Sentinels POD Data Hub).
  • Collaborative Data Hub Node1
  • Copernicus Services Data Hub

Sentinel-5P Pre-Operations Data Hub will be not impacted by the maintenance activity.

The International Access Hub, the Collaborative Data Hub Node-2 and Node-3 will not be affected by the maintenance but no fresh products will be available.

We will inform you as soon as the maintenance is completed. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause to your activities.

During this time interval users will be able to access and retrieve Sentinel data through the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem, including fresh data for Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-3.

An analysis of satellite imagery collected over energy infrastructure in Slovakia has highlighted the country’s plans to phase out coal-fired generating plants in favour of more sustainable power sources.

Copernicus Sentinel-1A was unavailable between 09:09:17 and 15:47:50 UTC on 29 March 2023, due to a PDHT anomaly inducing the following unrecoverable loss of data:

Datatakes 05C03D, 05C03C, 05C03B, 05C03A, 05C039, 05C038, 05C037, 05C036, 05C035, 05C034, 05C033, 05C032, 05C031,05C030, 05C02F, 05C02E, 05C02D, 05C02C, 05C02B, 05C02A, 05C029, 05C028, 05C027, 05C026, 05C025, 05C024,05C023, 05C022, 05C021, 05C020, 05C01F, 05C01E, 05C01D, 05C01C, 05C01B, 05C01A, 05C019, 05C018, 05C017, 05C016, 05C015, 05C014, 05C00F, 05C00C are completely lost.

The first acquisition took place at 15:51:17.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Following the previous news, we are pleased to inform that the Copernicus Sentinel-3 Altimetry Land Thematic Products (TP) with Baseline Collection 005 (BC005) are currently under reprocessing to generate improved and tailored level-2 data for both Sentinel-3A and Sentinel-3B. The release of the level-2 TP’s will cover from the beginning of the mission up to date, and the new processing baseline will be then transferred in nominal operations to maintain a uniform processing baseline.

The reprocessing activities is performed by Telespazio (IT) in coordination with the Sentinel-3 Land Altimetry Mission Performance Cluster led by CLS (FR) and it is planned to complete by Q3 2023.

It is recalled that the data availability plan will be routinely updated on a dedicated page, providing details on the periods published, as well as indicators on the proceedings of the reprocessing with the forthcoming periods soon to be published.

Users are invited to start making use of the gradually building long-term time-series of Collection-005 products!

Due to Copernicus Sentinel-3B In-Plane Manoeuvre, SLSTR Products degradation is expected for sensing time from 13/03/2023T17:59:46 to 13/03/2023T18:10:50UTC.

Due to Copernicus Sentinel-3B In-Plane Manoeuvre, data will be degraded on hereafter products:

  • Copernicus Sentinel-3B SLSTR: products degradation is expected for sensing time from 13/03/2023T15:53:15 to 13/03/2023T16:03:09 UTC

  • Copernicus Sentinel-3B OLCI: products degradation is expected for sensing time from 13/03/2023T15:53:15 to 13/03/2023T15:53:57 UTC

We are pleased to announce the upcoming deployment on 30 March 2023 of a new processing baseline for Copernicus Sentinel-1. The subject evolution concerns all products, and more specifically the Level-2 OCN product. The new Processing Baseline includes:

  • Enhanced resilience of the SAR burst processing to data reception contingencies;
  • Filling of potential missing data in denoising vectors for TOPS GRD products at high latitudes;
  • Addition of a new metadata in the Level-1 products manifest indicating the Level-0 A/C/N used for processing;
  • Introduction of quick-looks in the Level-2 OCN products;
  • Annotation of processing variables required to ease the exploitation of Level-2 OSW products, allowing, for example, the processing of Level-2 OSW starting from Level-2 products;
  • Use of OpenStreetMap as default coastline indicator for Level-2 processing.

It is highlighted that this evolution comprises an evolution of the Sentinel-1 Level-1 and Level-2 OCN product format, in line with the updated product specifications document version 3.13. The subject product format specifications are available here together with a set of corresponding sample products.

The new processing baseline will be deployed on 30 March 2023 for Sentinel-1A,

with the activation of the new instrument processor version 3.6.1. Products generated after the deployment of this version will tag version 3.6.1 of the operational processor in the corresponding product metadata and will be aligned with the product format specifications 3.13.

In common with the operations schema of Sentinels 1,2& 3, the operations of the data dissemination for Sentinel-5P will soon implement the roll-out of the oldest L2 data from the immediate access storage and activation of the interfaces to allow to asynchronously restore access to historic data when needed.

The Sentinel-5P dedicated hub will continue to provide the access to all Sentinel-5P data: the catalogue will continue to publish all data, the discovery and download interfaces (both the graphical user interface and API) will provide additional status information to indicate whether the products are online or offline.

Access to the product URL for data that are no longer available online will automatically trigger the retrieval of the data, the actual download may be initiated once the data are restored (within minutes to hours). Full details are available in the User Guides.

Roll-out of the data will start with the oldest Sentinel-5P L2 OFFL data and will proceed to the other Sentinel product types according to the production volumes and usage patterns.

At least the latest six months of Sentinel-5P data will be kept online at all times. The retention period for the various product types will be tuned according to the usage patterns to ensure efficient access to the most recent and frequently downloaded data, the precise retention period (always greater than one year) is subject to change according to the operational experience.
