The Sentinel-1A Optical Communication Payload (OCP) was unavailable on 19 August 2023 and induced the following unrecoverable loss of data:

  • Datatakes

060212; 060216; 060215; 060214;060215; 060218; 006021E; 006021; 06021D; 06021C; 060220; 060228; 060225; 060226; 060224; 060229; 060227 are completely lost

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

Due to the execution of Sentinel-3B Collision Avoidance Manoeuvre, data degradation is expected for hereafter products:

Sentinel-3B SLSTR-IR from 2023/08/10T15:15:49 to 2023/08/10T15:25:52

Sentinel-3B SLSTR-VIS from 2023/08/10T15:15:49 to 2023/08/10T15:25:52

Sentinel-3B OLCI from 2023/08/10T15:15:49 to 2023/08/10T15:25:52

Due to the execution of Sentinel-3B SLSTR CDE power-cycle, SLSTR-IR and SLSTR-VIS products degradation is expected for sensing time from 2023/08/16T12:37:00 to 2023/08/17T00:37:00

Due to predicted outage for Copernicus Sentinel-3A OLCI Calibration, OLCI Products degradation is expected for sensing time from 11/08/2023T09:04:12 to 11/08/2023T 09:05:22 UTC.

Referring to our news of 09 August, the anomaly affecting the availability of the Sentinel-5P Near Real Time data acquired at the Inuvik ground station relates to forest fires that have damaged the communication network link between the station and the European main land infrastructure where the data is processed.

This contingency is being managed by replanning of Sentinel-5P acquisitions to use only the Svalbard station to mitigate the temporary disruption in Inuvik nominal operations. The replanning is expected to be active from today 10/08/2023 12:00 UTC.

This configuration is expected to improve the Sentinel-5P Near Real Time data processing, although due to the reduced availability of downlink capacity on some orbits some gaps in NRT are still to be expected. There will be no overall loss of TROPOMI data, and the non time critical (OFFL) processing will proceed nominally.

The data acquired at Inuvik from the 07 August afternoon up to the above-mentioned reconfiguration dates are not lost and will be processed and made available as soon as feasible. Minor degradation in quality could be expected for all data acquired during the period of unavailability of the data downlinked to Inuvik. This is under investigation.

The situation is being monitored and return to nominal downlink scenario and full Near Real Time processing will be resumed as soon as feasible.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to your activities.

Referring to our news of 08 August, the anomaly affecting the production of the Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B data acquired at the Inuvik ground station relates to forest fires in the North West Territories, Canada, that have damaged the communication network link between the station and the European mainland infrastructure where the data is processed.

This contingency is being managed by a reconfiguration of the Copernicus X-Band stations network with the introduction of Matera (Italy) and Maspalomas (Spain) ground stations to mitigate the temporary disruption in Inuvik nominal operations.

The Sentinel-2 satellites are being replanned accordingly to use these stations, and so recover a near-nominal end-to-end service with a corresponding reconfiguration of the acquisition and production services.

On the basis of this new configuration:

  • The Sentinel-2B nominal operations have restarted today on 10/08/2023 02:30 UTC.

  • The Sentinel-2A nominal operations are planned to restart tomorrow morning on 11/08/2023 02:30 UTC.

Some additional latency in product availability may be observed in this transition period. Also, some minor reduction in the observation scenario of both Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B is to be expected. The related KML files in line with the new temporary configuration are available here respectively for Sentinel-A and Sentinel-2B.

The data acquired at Inuvik from the 07 August afternoon up to the above-mentioned reconfiguration dates are not lost and will be processed and made available once the communication network link is restored. The exhaustive list of the concerned datatakes is available here.

The situation is being monitored and steps are taken to continue mitigating the contingency with improvements in the configuration that will be gradually applied in the coming days.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to your activities.
