The Santorini caldera has been a source of numerous eruptions and tsunamis in the past with the most recent seismic sequence ending in 1950 .Since then, Santorini volcano was in a "quiet" phase, with insignificant deformation and limited seismic activity.

Remote sensing applications benefit from the use of data fusion approaches based on spectral unmixing, which have proven their value for delivering spectrally consistent fused images while reducing the mixed pixel problem. In this study the scientists propose a multi-temporal setting of the algorithm that is applied to full MERIS and Landsat TM time series. The final goal is to complete or fill gaps in the Landsat time series by using MERIS data with more frequent coverage. Hence obtaining consistent time series at high spatial resolution and with the enhanced spectral properties of MERIS.

The availability of light in the water column and at the seabed determines the euphotic zone and constrains the type and the vertical distribution of algae species. Light attenuation is traditionally quantified as the diffuse attenuation coefficient of the downwelling spectral irradiance at wavelength 490 nm (Kd490) or the photosynthetically available radiation (KdPAR).

Satellites see defined lines of nomadic pastoralism in one of the world's poorest countries.

In order to prepare for the exploitation of Sentinel-2 type of time series, the European Space Agency, in collaboration with RapidEye, collected an unprecedented time series from February to June 2013 with a 5 day revisit at high resolution over 14 selected sites around the world.

Building on its use of satellites for responding to disasters, ESA has helped to create a service that makes flood maps available simply via the Internet.

ESA is sponsoring an initiative to explore the possible benefits that the Copernicus programme’s Sentinel satellites can bring to geo-information communities in over 20 European countries.

In this study the team use geodetic data to determine surface deformation associated with the Mw 5.1 earthquake that occurred in Lorca, southeast Spain, on 11 May 2011.

Daugaard Jensen Gletscher, Greenland, is a large tidewater glacier covering an estimated 4% of the Greenland ice sheet. In this study the team investigate whether recent changes in the dynamics and mass balance of this sector of the Greenland ice sheet are reflected in the behaviour of this particular glacier.

ESA's Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes (D-EOP) has opened a Request For Information (RFI) directed at collecting ideas for the implementation of some Thematic Exploitation Platforms (TEPs) as part of the evolution of the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) operations concept.
