From the barren Sahara to lush jungles, the first high-resolution map classifying land cover types on the entire African continent has been released. The map was created using a year's worth of data from the Sentinel-2A satellite.

Copernicus atmosphere

03 October 2017

Sentinel-5P will soon join the other Copernicus Sentinel satellites in orbit. Copernicus is the world's largest environmental monitoring programme, and is operated by ESA and the European Commission. With Sentinel-5P, Copernicus will have its first satellite dedicated to the monitoring of atmospheric chemistry. These measurements are important to observe air pollution and climate change.
The registration for the first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on Radar Remote Sensing is now open.
Sentinel-1A was unavailable on 01 October 2017 between 12:06 UTC and 20:02 UTC, due to an onboard software anomaly.

We would like to inform the users that there has been a delay in the publication of Sentinel-1 products starting from Saturday, 23 September 2017, at 5:00 UTC and ending on Tuesday, 26 September 2017 at 20:00 UTC, due to an infrastructure performance issue.

Teaming up for Sentinel-5P

26 September 2017

In this special edition of the Earth from Space video programme, Nico van Putten from the Netherlands Space Office and Jonathan Banting from Airbus Defence and Space discuss Sentinel-5P's unique Tropomi instrument and the challenges in building the satellite to accommodate it.
Referring to the news published on 25 September, users are informed that the ground segment anomaly has been solved and nominal Sentinel-2B production has resumed today, 26 September.

An unplanned maintenance of the Sentinels data distribution infrastructure has been required starting on 26 September at 11:49 UTC, resulting in a downtime of the Data Hub Services.

The teams that will fly Sentinel-5P are training intensively for launch, ensuring that everyone knows their job and can react to any emergency.
Engineers have been at Russia's Plesetsk launch site for a month now, ticking off the jobs on the ‘to do' list so that the Copernicus Sentinel-5P satellite is fit and ready for liftoff on 13 October. With the satellite now fuelled, the team has passed another milestone.
