During the forthcoming EGU General Assembly in Vienna, Austria, which will take place from 12-17 April 2015, ESA is organising the session "Scientific Exploitation of Copernicus Sentinels - EO Research and Innovation".

Interested users who wish to participate to this session are encouraged to submit their contribution before: 7 January 2015

Users are informed of the planned maintenance for the Sentinel scientific/other use data hub for the installation of a new major release of the rolling archive software.

Marking a first in space, Sentinel-1A and Alphasat have linked up by laser stretching almost 36,000 km across space to deliver images of Earth just moments after they were captured.

ESA invites proposals for the SPOT-5 Take 5 call, which aims to select potential sites of observation for a new phase in the SPOT-5 mission.

The deadline for proposal submissions is: 8 December 2014

With the first Copernicus satellite now operational, ESA and the DLR German Aerospace Center have signed an arrangement on managing and accessing Sentinel data.

In this study scientists investigate the properties of metrics derived from the availability of repeated acquisitions of Envisat Advanced SAR (ASAR) data, acquired in the moderate resolution (150 m) Wide Swath Mode (WSM), to demonstrate their usefulness in the context of land surface characterisation and assess the potential of moderate resolution SAR data to complement classification of water bodies in global land cover products with particular regard to the detection of open water bodies.

Sentinel-2A is in the middle of an extensive testing programme to make sure this land-monitoring satellite is fit for launch next spring. As well as being shaken and stressed, engineers have also checked that it will separate from the rocket for its life in orbit.

In a landmark agreement for Europe's Copernicus programme, the European Commission and ESA have signed an agreement of over €3 billion to manage and implement the Copernicus 'space component' between 2014 and 2021.

As part of the preparations for the Sentinel-5 Precursor air-quality monitoring mission, scientists teamed up in Romania recently to test different airborne systems that will be used to ensure this new satellite delivers accurate measurements of pollutants in the air we breathe.

The first satellite-based service for extensive and uninterrupted monitoring and mapping of land stability has won the top prize in the European Earth-monitoring competition.

Calling on all interested users of Sentinel data, who would like to submit their results, turning their experiences into 'success stories'.

If you have a good story to tell, of how any of the Sentinel satellites are producing data that bring benefit to your work and/or to society, please contact the Sentinel Online Editor Malì Cecere at: mali.cecere@ejr-quartz.com with your proposals.
