Ground Segment - Sentinel-4 - Sentinel Online
In the Copernicus Programme the SENTINEL missions are served by the Copernicus Space Component (CSC) core ground segment, complemented by the SENTINEL collaborative ground segments and the Copernicus 'contributing missions' ground segments.
In particular the CSC core ground segment monitor and control the SENTINEL spacecrafts, ensuring measurement data acquisition, processing, archiving and dissemination to final users. The CSC core groubd segment is responsible for performing conflict-free mission planning according to a pre-defined operational scenario, and ensuring the quality of data products and performance of the space-borne sensors by continuous monitoring, calibration and validation activities, guaranteeing overall performance of the mission. Figure 1 shows an overview of the Copernicus Space Component Ground Segment Architecture.

As far as the SENTINEL-4 mission is concerned, the instrument is managed via the MTG ground segment which acts as a Copernicus 'contributing missions' ground segment, since the SENTINEL-4 instrument is embarked onboard the MTG-S spacecraft.
As such the MTG ground segment provides SENTINEL-4 with specific control functions, data reception, data processing, data dissemination and data archiving facilities.
