Minimize Mission Objectives

The SENTINEL-4 mission has the primary objective of observing the diurnal cycle of the tropospheric composition over Europe and North Africa monitoring in particular key air quality trace gases like O3 (Ozone), NO2 (Nitrogen dioxide), SO2 (Sulfur dioxide), HCHO (Formaldehyde), CHOCHO (glyoxal), as well as aerosol and cloud properties in support of the air quality applications of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Services. These services will provide coherent information on atmospheric variables in supporting relevant European policies and for the benefit of the European citizens

The SENTINEL-4 mission is part of the Copernicus European Earth observation programme, previously known as Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) programme. The overall objective of Copernicus is to support Europe's goals regarding sustainable development and global governance of the environment by providing timely and quality data, information, services and knowledge.
