The rivers (with low backscatter in dark colours) ramify into a multitude of lagoons and channels of various sizes, forming a complex system of water bodies surrounded by tropical rain forest (higher backscatter in green colours). In contrast to optical imagery that is often troubled by cloud coverage, the Copernicus Sentinel-1 mosaic provides a clear image resolving the capillary structure of the water bodies and its shorelines.
