Before reading the Technical Guide, users are advised to have read the SENTINEL-3 SYN User Guide for a high level description of the available modes and products.

SYNERGY is not a single instrument but a process combining the OLCI L1b and SLSTR L1b products. This processing chain is composed by two distinct modules which are called, for convenience, SYNERGY Level 1 and SYNERGY Level 2. This numbering does not refer to the actual product levels (which can be more labelled as a L3 or L4 products) but to practical Sentinel 3 conventions.
