Big Data from Space 2023 (BiDS) brings together key actors from industry, academia, EU entities and government to reveal user needs, exchange ideas and showcase latest technical solutions and applications touching all aspects of space and big data technologies. BiDS provides a premier opportunity for practitioners, researchers, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, as well as practical challenges encountered in the context of big data from space.

The 2023 edition of BiDS will focus not only on the technologies enabling insight and foresight inferable from big data, but will emphasize how these technologies impact society. Today, access to global, free, and open Earth Observation (EO) data is complemented with new initiatives such as the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem, the Destination Earth (DestinE) and ESA’s related Digital Twin Earth program, which will foster generating additional value and impact. Promoting trust in big data for policy interactions, insight and foresight enabled by the evolving geospatial data ecosystem should be transparent, sound, and reproducible with associated quality assurance, building on open data and methodologies.

The Sentinel-2 Validation Team (S2VT) meeting gathers Sentinel-2 international scientific and user community to discuss and review the cal/val methodologies and EO data quality for the Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission. The 6thS2VT meeting will take place on 12-14 September 2023 in ESA-ESRIN, Frascati (Italy). It will be an in-person meeting, so to promote cooperation and synergies among Cal/Val teams from all around the world.

The workshop is organised around oral and poster presentations selected by the ESA’s Organisation Committee. Recommendations from S2VT provide essential information to ESA to progress with evolutions and improvements of the Sentinel-2 core data products.

The International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) is the flagship conference of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS). It is aimed at providing a platform for sharing knowledge and experience on recent developments and advancements in geoscience and remote sensing technologies, particularly in the context of earth observation, disaster monitoring and risk assessment.

On behalf of the IEEE GRSS and the IGARSS 2023 Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to the 43rd annual IGARSS symposium to be held in person. We welcome you to join us at Pasadena Convention Center.

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and its member the Norwegian Space Agency (NOSA) are pleased to announce that the 2023 Global Space Conference on Climate Change (GLOC 2023) will be taking place in Oslo, Norway on 23 – 25 May 2023. GLOC 2023 will contribute to the global efforts to better understand and battle climate change through the use of space-based services and applications. First conference of its kind, GLOC 2023 is designed to encourage the sharing of programmatic, technical and policy information, as well as collaborative solutions, challenges, lessons learnt, and paths forward among all nations.

GLOC 2023 will focus on the theme "Fire and Ice – Space for Climate Action" and will address various topics of interest in relation to space and climate change with a specific focus on:

  • Climate change impacts on the environment
  • Applications and services driven by climate change
  • Impacts of a changing climate on policy and law
  • Commercial opportunities created by a changing climate
  • Present and future international collaboration on space missions related to climate change
  • Social, communications, economic and cultural dimensions of environmental change
