Minimize Data Access at Your Fingertips

The free, full and open data policy adopted for the Copernicus programme foresees access available to all users for the Sentinel data products, via a simple pre-registration.

Who needs to register:

Registration is open to all users via simple on-line self-registration accessible via the Copernicus Open Access Hub.

Member States requiring data for national initiatives in the frame of the Sentinels Collaborative Ground Segment need not register on this service, they are served via the dedicated access point.

Following registration, the user can immediately download Sentinel products generated systematically from all acquired data. Please note that depending on the mission and the acquisition time of the product, the full operational qualification may not yet be completed.

Minimize Data Access Overview

The Copernicus Space Component (CSC) Ground Segment data dissemination implements the Copernicus Data Policy, and is based on an evolutionary approach to further enhance the data exploitation by the broad user community.

The CSC data dissemination features:

  • dedicated data access infrastructures, tailored to the needs of a predefined set of use typologies (i.e. Copernicus Services, National Member States, International Agreements, Scientific/Other use)
  • a User Service Charter
Minimize Data Access Infrastructure

Four data access infrastructures typologies are available to users:

  • Data access infrastructure for Copernicus Core users (CSC Data Access), providing access with committed performances. All Sentinels core products are accessible within their specified timeliness. Furthermore access to Copernicus Contributing Missions data is available according to the provisions of the DAP and the CSCDA Terms and Conditions. The access to the infrastructure is via the user available bandwidth to the CSC WAN network backbone, this latter with committed reliability and performance. User registration is based on a user request, verified according to the relevant eligibility criteria as defined by the European Commission in the Data Warehouse document.
  • Data access infrastructure for National Member States (Collaborative Data Hub), providing access with target performances. A rolling on-line archive covering the last month(s) of Sentinels core products, available within their specific timeliness, is accessible. Furthermore, access to off-line archived data is available on-request. The access to the infrastructure is via the user available bandwidth to a dedicated dissemination bandwidth, this latter with committed reliability and performance. User registration is be based on a user account pre-registration, with a dedicated single account per requesting Member State.
  • Data access infrastructure for International Agreements (International Agreements Data Hub), providing access with target performances. User registration is based on a user account pre-registration, with a dedicated single account per Agreement.
  • Data access infrastructure for Scientific/Other use providing access for research, commercial, outreach use and the general public. A rolling on-line archive covering the last month(s) of selected Sentinels core products is accessible. The access to the infrastructure is via the user available bandwidth to a dedicated dissemination bandwidth. The data access is configured to avoid resources saturation resulting from massive downloads by a limited number of users (e.g. maximum number of parallel downloads, maximum volume per retrieval,...). User account creation is based on user self-registration.
Minimize User Service Charter

The CSC Ground Segment provides a set of main user services (i.e. User Service Charter), available independently from the data access infrastructure, featuring:

  • User registration and management service
  • Sentinels core products Discovery, View and Download services
  • Emergency service, restricted to specific users
  • Dataset generation service, featuring generation of geographical/temporal data collections according to pre-defined areas of interest and/or applications
  • User HelpDesk service
  • Research and Support service
  • Hosted processing service
Minimize Data Access evolution

The CSC GS data access infrastructure and user Service Charter is updated on a regular basis to integrate the Sentinel missions as they get launched and commissioned, and to adapt to the evolving needs of the broad user community.
