SENTINEL-5P is a European Earth observation satellite mission developed to support the European Commission Copernicus Programme for monitoring the Earth.
The main objective of the SENTINEL-5P mission is to perform atmospheric measurements, with high spatio-temporal resolution, relating to air quality, climate forcing, ozone and UV radiation. The mission definition is driven by the need for continuity in provision of information to services and science building on GOME/ERS-2, GOME-2/MetOp-A, GOME-2/MetOp-B, SCIAMACHY/Envisat and OMI/AURA data, with improvements in products performance and coverage.
The SENTINEL-5P mission is a joint initiative between ESA and the NSO (Netherlands Space Office).
The spacecraft carries the UV-VIS-NIR-SWIR spectrometer TROPOMI.
