Intermittent unavailability of latest Sentinel-1 products on the Scientific Data Hub

13 February 2015

Due to the heavy demand for downloads and the extension of the volume stored on the Sentinel-1 Scientific Data Hub beyond the originally planned rolling window there are currently intermittent difficulties in keeping up with the Sentinel-1 production and publishing the latest Sentinel-1 products on the rolling archive.

Following the received requests, it is the intention to maintain access to the full production since the Sentinel-1 in orbit commissioning review (3 October 2014) on the rolling archive at least for the next few months.

The Scientific Data Hub currently holds over 38,000 products. The average number of sustained parallel downloads is above 50 products. The take-up of the API for scripting interface seems well established, with many users automating the data transfer. However, the overall performances suffer some degradation due to occasional massive search requests.

To further protect the service and ensure reliable performances, quota restrictions will be implemented for the number of searches per seconds per user in upcoming versions of the Data Hub software upgrades - this change should be be completely transparent to most users.

In order to recover from this situation, some limited interruption of the service are planned for the coming two weeks.
