ESA's Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes (D-EOP) has opened a Request For Information (RFI) directed at collecting ideas for the implementation of some Thematic Exploitation Platforms (TEPs) as part of the evolution of the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) operations concept.

TEPs correspond to virtual workspaces providing a user community interested in a common Earth Science Topic with very fast access to:

    (i) large volumes of data
    (ii) computing resources
    (iii) processing software
    (iv) general platform capabilities

The principal purpose of this RFI is to gather information regarding potential themes and corresponding activities to be used as input to the preparation of a formal ESA Invitation To Tender (ITT), covering the time frame 2014-2017.

It is anticipated that a limited number (e.g. 4-5) of separate contracts aimed at the implementation of TEPs - each addressing a specific theme - could be awarded. In addition, each and every response will be considered when ESA formulates its future Earth Observation ground segment strategy and corresponding evolution activities for years 2014 and beyond. Potential contributors are therefore strongly encouraged to register their interest, and signal all issues regarding evolution of exploitation platforms for which they see present and/or future opportunities.

Contributors should provide their inputs according to the schedule and instructions described in the RFI document.
