ESA is working on an improvement of the Copernicus Sentinel-1 Wave Mode 2 performance, by optimising the antenna configuration (new antenna gain settings allowing a better SNR).

ESA is working on an improvement of the Copernicus Sentinel-1 Wave Mode 2 performance, by optimising the antenna configuration (new antenna gain settings allowing a better SNR).

The new antenna configuration will be embedded in S-1A at 09:36:00 on 28 February for testing purposes during one cycle until 11 March. This cycle will be used for calibrating products with the new antenna configuration.

We note that during this phase, the S-1A WV products (WV2- beam with the higher incidence angle) may not be properly calibrated, and so product performance is not guaranteed and stable and we recommend caution in using products from this phase.

After the phase is complete, details of the affected time period will be released in a Quality Disclaimer (#42). This quality disclaimer will be updated with the status of calibration of the impacted products.

After this cycle, S1-A will recover its initial configuration; both satellites will then work in nominal configuration.
