Cybele has won this year's Copernicus Masters competition. Using Copernicus Sentinel satellite data, this online application provides quick access to environmental crime reports for law firms and insurance companies.

Environmental crime, such as illegal construction and oil spills, is a growing problem worldwide and an expensive one at that. It is estimated that in 2016 alone, environmental crime incurred a global costs of between $91 billion and $258 billion.

Cybele, short for Cyber Environmental Law Enforcement, was announced as the overall winner last night at the Copernicus Masters Awards Ceremony in Marseille, France.
