Following useful feedback and agreement with the European Commission it has been decided to rename the "Sentinels Scientific Data Hub" to "Copernicus Open Access Hub".

This does not involve any changes to the URL (scihub.copernicus.eu) or scope of the hub, it is simply an acknowledgement that the Sentinel data are open and free to all communities, not only the scientific one.

As of 14 February the ESA Copernicus Open Access Hub has:

  • published over 1.7 million products
  • managed over 20 Petabytes of user downloads
  • supports over 62,000 registered users

The end of 2016 saw a major upgrade of the hub infrastructure and software which resulted in the availability of the hub improving to over 99% since the start of 2017.
