Sentinels Toolboxes

Open Source Development

The Sentinel Toolboxes and their full source code are distributed freely under the GNU GPL license on Github.

Sentinel-1 Toolbox

The Sentinel-1 Toolbox (S1TBX) consists of a collection of processing tools, data product readers and writers and a display and analysis application to support the large archive of data from ESA SAR missions including Sentinel-1, ERS-1 & 2 and ENVISAT, as well as third party SAR data from ALOS PALSAR, TerraSAR-X, COSMO-SkyMed and RADARSAT-2. The Toolbox includes tools for calibration, speckle filtering, coregistration, orthorectification, mosaicking, data conversion, polarimetry and interferometry.

The Sentinel-1 Toolbox is being developed for ESA by Array in partnership with DLR, Brockmann Consult and OceanDataLab.

Sentinel-2 Toolbox

The Sentinel-2 Toolbox consists of a rich set of visualisation, analysis and processing tools for the exploitation of MSI data from the Sentinel-2 mission.

As a multi-mission remote sensing toolbox, it also supports ESA missions Envisat (MERIS & AATSR), ERS (ATSR), as well as third party data from RapidEye, SPOT, MODIS (Aqua and Terra), Landsat (TM), ALOS (AVNIR & PRISM) and others.

Pilot Products Level-2H Harmonised and Level-2F Fused (Sentinel-2 + Landsat-8/9 surface reflectances in cartographic geometry) are generated on-demand.

The Sentinel-2 Toolbox has been developed for ESA by CS in partnership with Brockmann Consult, CS-Romania, Telespazio Vega Deutschland, INRA and UCL.

Sentinel-3 Toolbox

The Sentinel-3 Toolbox is composed of a set of visualisation, analysis and processing tools for the exploitation of OLCI and SLSTR data from the Sentinel-3 mission. As a multi-mission remote sensing toolbox, it also supports the ESA missions Envisat (MERIS & AATSR), ERS (ATSR), SMOS as well as third party data from MODIS (Aqua and Terra), Landsat (TM), ALOS (AVNIR & PRISM) and others.

The Sentinel-3 Toolbox is being developed for ESA by Brockmann Consult in partnership with the University of Reading, C-S France, ACRI-ST and Array.

Sentinel-3 Altimetry Toolbox

The Broadview Radar Altimetry Toolbox is a tool designed to use radar altimetry data. It is a joint project between ESA and CNES to develop an open source tool (GPL-3) freely available to all the altimetry community.

The toolbox is able to read all altimetry data from official data centres, from ERS-1 and 2, Topex/Poseidon, Geosat Follow-on, Jason-1, Envisat, Jason-2, CryoSat and Sentinel-3, from Sensor Geophysical Data Record to gridded merged data. It can also visualise results and do some processing and computations.

Atmospheric Toolbox

The Atmospheric Toolbox aims to provide scientists with tools for ingesting, processing, and analysing atmospheric remote sensing data. The toolbox consists of four main software components: https://atmospherictoolbox.org/coda , https://atmospherictoolbox.org/harp , https://atmospherictoolbox.org/visan , and https://atmospherictoolbox.org/qdoas .

Some of the data supported by the Toolbox are products from satellite instruments such as Tropomi (Sentinel-5P), http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Observing_the_Earth/Aeolus (Aeolus), https://www.eumetsat.int/gome-2 (MetOp), and https://aura.gsfc.nasa.gov/omi.html (Aura). The toolbox also supports model data such as https://atmosphere.copernicus.eu/ and data from ground-based instruments like those provided by https://evdc.esa.int/ .

The Atmospheric Toolbox was developed for ESA by https://stcorp.nl/ in partnership with https://www.eumetsat.int/website/home/index.html and the https://www.bira-iasb.be/en/.

Sentinel-5P Toolbox

To read TROPOMI data block files in NetCDF format, users can make use of the netCDF library which is built into most of the common data analysis packages (MATLAB, python, IDL, etc). A large amount of free software as well as commercial or licensed packages is available at the http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/software.html.

The https://atmospherictoolbox.org/ has been extended to provide support to the Sentinel-5 Precursor users. The toolbox supports extraction, visualisation and analysis of Sentinel-5 Precursor products.
